2017 marks the second year for Response to Love Center to be the recipient of proceeds from a day at the Local Steam Engine, Antique Tractor, Old Farm Equipment Show and Flea Market in Alexander. This event has taken place for the past fifty one years.
Sister Mary Johnice was invited to speak at Our Lady of Peace Church in
Clarence, New York, to encourage the parishioners to consider remembering the needs of the Center through a sacrificial gift during the Lenten Season. One of the parishioners felt inspired. Through the efforts of the owner of the Wargo Demolition Company, John, his team of workers, friends and relatives decided to take action. He set up “Sacred Heart Productions” to benefit the Center with a fundraiser.
Sister Johnice and Mike Gilhooly (Assistant Director) met together with a team to organize the project. The Steam Show Event was now underway and before long, the Center was given a place at the main entrance with a tent and tables. Volunteers staffed the grand prize raffle, 50-50 raffles and theme baskets.
Sisters Mary Catherine, Rose, Johnice and Volunteers greeted thousands of visitors. They shared Felician smiles and kind words of welcome along with donations of fresh donuts and containers of animal crackers. Sister Johnice commented, “We have the time today to bring Jesus to all the people we meet. We enjoy sharing stories, smiles and making new friends. It’s not all about raising funds … it’s evangelizing and accompanying others … about bringing an awareness of people’s need for food, clothing and learning what takes place in our Center.”
The Veterans from Response to Love Center set up a table with literature and talked with Veterans in need of benefits and services. The day was filled with God’s love and joy, great weather and the invitation to return once again next year!
Special Thanks to MJ Mechanical for Hosting the Matt Poole Golf Classic on July 22, 2017, and offering the proceeds to the Response to Love Center. The Annual golf tournament raised a total of more than $5000! MJ Mechanical has been our refrigeration and HVAC Company for many years offering great service and people. MJ Mechanical (http://www.mjmechanical.com/) has been keeping our food cold and our building warm, and in great shape to serve the people on the East Side of Buffalo.
For the last eight years, the Response to Love Center has held an annual fundraising Gala called the Benefit of Love. It is our primary fundraiser for the year that helps pay for the services we provide to the community. This year the Benefit of Love Gala will be held on Thursday June 15, 2017 at the Millennium Hotel Buffalo on Walden Ave. in Cheektowaga, New York.
Some of the things that are offered at the Benefit of Love Event are valuable gift baskets, silent auction items, live auction items, inspirational gifts and items unique to the mission.
We also want to recognize the people that have gone over and beyond to help our mission succeed. For the last few years we have shared the stories of these people, organizations, and Parishes that have done so much for us with a small award and the recognition they so deserve.
This year, like years past we hold a “Gift Gathering Champagne Brunch.” The purpose of this brunch is to help provide some of the auction items for the Gala event in June. The idea is that we hold a brunch and the admission to the brunch is a donation that is valued at least $25. That can be in the form of a monetary donation, gift cards, gift basket items, silent auction items, live auction items or other interesting donations we can use at the Benefit of Love Gala.
The Gift Gathering will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2017, at 1:00pm at the Millennium Hotel Buffalo on Walden Ave. in Cheektowaga, New York. Please join us for this fun event and help the Response to Love Center have a Grand Gala Event in June.
If you are interested in attending our Gift Gathering Champagne Brunch please RSVP the number of attendees by April 15th 2017 so we can get an accurate count for the party. Please call 894-7030 or respond by clicking here.
Thank you to all the people, churches, companies and organizations that helped collect more than 1000 pillows for the 2016 Prayers and Pillows Drive at Response to Love Center. A special thank you to Mr. Richard Gurbacki for being instrumental in collecting, and transporting many of the pillows collected.
The pillows collected were distributed to our Christmas Day Dinner Guests and other Organizations that help the poor in Buffalo.
The drive started because of the desire of Volunteers Mattie and Brooke Woodard to provide something “special” for our clients. The video below explains.
