Harvest time is special at Response to Love Center! Fresh produce is grown and given to families and individuals for a healthy meal; Tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, Zucchini, and Peppers are provided. In addition, the fresh produce can be used as a teachable experience, for meal preparation and to cook healthy meals at home.
Fresh donuts are brought to the Center through the generosity of Mayer Brothers
Cider Mill, twice a week, boxes of freshly baked cinnamon donuts are served to the
clients in the dining room and extras are added to the pantry bags.
Each week, Kreher’s Farm Fresh Eggs are donated and given as an extra
nutritious food item for the food pantry bag.
We are grateful to God for His bountiful harvest and we thank God for those who share their gifts during the autumn season. God is good!
Part of our Mission is to help provide basic personal needs to those that cannot afford them. We believe that we can help the quality of our client’s lives, and their self-esteem by offering Shampoo, Shaving Cream, Deodorant, Soap, Toothpaste etc. However, due to the number of people in need, we are making an appeal for these items so we have enough to go around. We usually have two yearly distributions of these items and as of this writing we will be short in our fall distribution and will have nothing in the spring 2018 distribution. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Special Thanks to MJ Mechanical for Hosting the Matt Poole Golf Classic on July 22, 2017, and offering the proceeds to the Response to Love Center. The Annual golf tournament raised a total of more than $5000! MJ Mechanical has been our refrigeration and HVAC Company for many years offering great service and people. MJ Mechanical (http://www.mjmechanical.com/) has been keeping our food cold and our building warm, and in great shape to serve the people on the East Side of Buffalo.
Thank you to Maggie Buckley and her daughter Carly Switalski for collecting 187 pairs of socks to be distributed to the poor of Buffalo’s East Side. Maggie and Carly head up an organization called Carly’s Cents for Socks.
Key Bank employees collected pillows to help the Response to Love Center pillow drive. Jennifer Strickland, Monica Herman, and Tristan Ziegler delivered 55 brand new pillows. Thank you, ladies, for your thoughtfulness.
We would like to congratulate Zahra Akther Lasker for completing the ESL Class at Response to Love Center, after studying with us for the past year. Zahra is an immigrant from Bangladesh who came to America in 2015. She was searching for a better life for herself and her family. She lives here with her husband, son and daughter.
Zahra speaks proudly of her children’s accomplishments as her 27 year old daughter works as a banker and her 21 year old son, an engineering student, who currently studies at University of Buffalo.
During the year, Zahra volunteered at Public School 90, located in Buffalo. She shared time in the classroom with the first and second grade students. Today, she came to share the good news with Sister Johnice, Michael and the teachers. She was interviewed by the Principal at the school where she volunteered and has acquired a full time position as a Teacher’s Aide beginning Monday.
We extend our sincere prayer and best wishes to Zahra and her family as they fulfill their dream here at Response to Love Center and experience a journey into new life in the United States.
