2016 Response to Love Center 17th Annual Benefit of Love Event
2016 Benefit of Love Event
The Annual Benefit of Love Event was not only a huge success but had record attendance with almost 300 people all with the intention of supporting the mission at Response to Love Center.

This year we awarded the following Special recognition awards:

  • Poverty Awareness Award; Jeff Woodard News Producer at Channel 2 WGRZ in Buffalo. Jeff started to volunteer about 10 years ago when his daughter heard about the poor children and wanted to donate her bed to a poor child when she was in 1st grade. That prompted Jeff to inquire about his family volunteering at Thanksgiving including his daughters. Every year since they have been helping us on both holidays.
  • Discipleship Award; Ruth Mathews who was unable to attend the event due to health concerns was awarded the Discipleship Award for her commitment to helping the poor and disadvantaged for years supporting the Response to Love Center.
  • Community & Service Award; Tom and Tim Creenan of Amherst Alarm. Amherst Alarm has really stepped up and helped the Response to Love Center when we needed it most. With the installation of the new elevator a few years ago it was necessary to update our old alarm system to conform to code. When we asked Amherst Alarm to give us a quote they did. At the same time Tom and Tim Creenan’s Parish was embarking on a Lenten Giving program. That Lenten Giving program was to benefit the Response to Love Center. Sister Johnice was asked to speak at the weekend Masses and Tom and Tim were there. Once hearing about our need Amherst Alarm decided to offer their alarm installation at NO COST! Then just last year knowing our need for additional security for the Sisters and the building they installed a state-of-the-art DVR (Digital Video Recording) System. This allows us to see every floor, each entrance and some of our parking lot again at NO COST to us. Thank you Amherst Alarm for your responding to our needs and the needs of the community.
  • Prayer & Action Award; Jack Leo and the Neumann Mission have for years supported the Mission at Response to Love Center. Helping with our Poverty Youth Awareness Program, continually supporting our mission financially, spiritually and with volunteers and so much more…
Hundreds of Gift Baskets adorned the hallways and room at the Buffalo Airport Millennium Hotel. With a volunteer staff of 30 people the evening went off without a hitch.
Other various fund raising activities including an awareness of the Corporal Works of Mercy run by Sister Rose and Sister Catherine.
Opening Prayer was offered by Sister Mary McCarrick followed by a delicious family style meal.

As this is the Year of Mercy our Holy Father Pope Francis was there in Spirit and as a full sized Cardboard cutout that allowed people to take a photo with “The Holy Father.”

One of our live auction items was for a back yard party with 10 of your friends to be hosted by a Gourmet Chef Jim Rebholz he serves the Western New York community as a Personal Chef, Wellness Instructor; Corporate Food Service Consultant & Media Chef personality. The Chef presented Sister Johnice with her own customized Chef hat and apron, asking Sister to assist him in making Banana Foster to serve to the winning bidder. Sister Johnice and Chef Jim put on quite a show when Sister sprinkled some cinnamon in the flames and it started to sparkle.  Melissa Holmes from Channel 2 was our MC and Hostess for the evening.

The Benediction was offered by Fr. Fredrick Betti SJ.
